Westchester Duo Among Four Nabbed In Fraud Scheme At Bank In Greenwich, Police Say

A man and woman from Westchester were among four nabbed in a scheme to cash a fraudulent check at a Greenwich bank, according to police.

The incident took place around 4:29 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, when Makeeba Mercedes Bell, 28, of Ardsley, walked into the Chase Bank on Greenwich Avenue and attempted to cash a fraudulent check, Greenwich Police said.

Bell, who was wearing a green hoodie and black sweatpants, walked towards the rear of the bank parking lot where arriving Greenwich officers saw her getting into a Honda Civic parked in the handicapped spot, police said.

Officers approached the vehicle and found three other individuals inside, along with Bell. After a brief investigation, it was confirmed that Bell had attempted to cash a fraudulent bank check and that the three with her had conspired with her.

A search of the vehicle turned up $6,556 in cash and $1,890 in money orders. One passenger, Eddie Hernandez, 25, of the Bronx, also had $4,922 in cash on his person, police said.

The other two passengers included Dylan Mckenzie, 23, of Yonkers, who was in possession of marijuana, and John Valenzuela, 23, of Stamford.

Bell was charged with criminal attempt at larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, identity theft, criminal impersonation, and forgery. She was released on a promise to appear ticket. 

Hernandez was charged with conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal attempt to commit larceny, identity theft, and resisting arrest. he is being held on $500,000 bond. 

Mckenzie was charged with possession of marijuana, conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal attempt of larceny and conspiracy to commit identity theft. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Valenzuela was charged with criminal attempt at larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, conspiracy to commit identity theft and resisting arrest. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
